Founding Game Designer
We’re a Game-Based Learning (GBL) startup developing research-backed game-based solutions for teaching complex concepts across various fields, primarily for B2B clients. We’re looking for a Game Designer who will also be a Co-founder in our company and help us design engaging, meaningful learning experiences through games.
In this role, you will own the end-to-end player experience—translating learning objectives into seamless gameplay loops, mechanics, and design systems. Responsibilities
Lead Game Vision & Mechanics: Translate complex pedagogical goals and B2B client requirements into engaging, mechanics-driven core gameplay loops and interactive systems.
Prototype & Playtest: Design, iterate, and rapidly prototype game concepts (from low-poly prototypes to full vertical slices) while running structured playtests to validate engagement and learning outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with developers, instructional designers, and educational researchers to ensure our games balance instructional integrity with high entertainment value.
Product Strategy & Scaling: Shape the long-term product roadmap, contribute to pitch decks and stakeholder presentations, and help scale the studio's design culture as a co-founder.
Requirements
Proven Game Design Experience: Demonstrated track record of designing and shipping games (indie, commercial, or serious games), with a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in game loops, UI/UX, and balance.
Passion for Educational Design: Deep understanding of—or a strong eagerness to master—game-based learning principles, instructional design, and how to gamify serious or complex subject matter without losing engagement.
Prototyping Proficiency: Hands-on experience working with modern game engines (such as Unity) and rapid prototyping tools to bring design concepts to life quickly.
Entrepreneurial Mindset: A proactive, collaborative startup mindset with excellent communication skills, comfort with ambiguity, and a drive to build a company from the ground up.
