The idea
Time Value of Money, the idea that money today is worth more than the same money later, because of inflation and missed growth, is easy to state but hard to actually feel, since cash doesn't visibly shrink or grow in front of you. Liquid Gold makes it physical by borrowing something everyone already understands: water evaporates when left out, and grows in volume when frozen. In the game, water is your only resource as you race to prep a backyard party before a deadline. Leave it out and it evaporates, value lost simply by sitting idle, just as idle cash loses purchasing power to inflation. Freeze it instead, and it returns later as more than you started with, mirroring how invested capital compounds over time. You'll spend the session deciding what to collect, freeze, or spend under real time pressure, with no coins, percentages, or finance terms on screen. Once the party's over, a Metaphor Mapping screen reveals exactly which financial concept each action represented.
